Breed-specific legislation (BSL) bans or restricts certain types of dogs based on their appearance because they are perceived as “dangerous” breeds or types of dogs.
Yes it's out there, so it's not enough to know all you can about the breed it's something you must protect and stand up for. If we don't be careful those who don't understand us and have hate and anger towards this breed will take them from us.
Breed-specific restrictions may require an owner of a targeted breed to;
* Give up there dog for
euthanasia
* Must ware muzzle at all times
* Certain leash requirements
* Kennel requirements
* Pay fees or fines
* Purchase insurance
* Place vicious dog signs around property
* Spay or neuter the dog
Why BSL Dose not work
1.) Like all bands on anything from drugs to guns, WHAT MAKE YOU PEOPLE THINK BANING ANYTHING WILL STOP CRIMINALS! No one owns a hand gun in New York city right? Please, just the wrong people own stolen hand guns in New York city. The same is true for these dogs, people will hide them and keep them in even worse conditions and still continue to fight them underground. Also if they can no longer use pit bulls they will use other breeds or create new ones.
2.) BSL has yet to become an effective method of reducing dog bites or have any positive effect on public safety.
3.) BSL requires that all dogs become classified a specific breed. This is not an easy task, especially when there are mix breeds involved. BSL bases its laws on looks only not what type of breed the dog really is.
4.) But what of the victims of non-targeted breeds? BSL forgets all about them.
5.) BSL is very expensive. Just what we need the government spending more of our hard earned tax dollars.
6.) BSL punishes the responsible dog owner and dose nothing to stop or make accountable the irresponsible owner.
7.) No canine welfare organization will support BSL.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
BECOME A BREED AMBASSADOR
1.) Stand up for the breed let people know what a wonderful family pet and friend you have.
2.) Monitor your legislation, I have attached a link to a great web site and there are more then just one to help you stay on top of things. Newspapers are a great
resource too.
3.) Contact your lawmakers and stand up for any proposed BSL laws.
4.) Educate yourself and your friends and family about BSL and targeted dog breeds.
5.) Socialize and train your dog, this way the world can see how wonderful pit bulls can be.
6.) Hold an event or support one, this goes for anything to do with BSL or just showing the positive light the AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER has.
7.) Teach your children safety around all dogs.
7.) Join any group that will show bully's in a positive manner.
