Bully breeds

Who's who of the the bully world

If you are a little confused about what is a pit bull and what is not, we competley understand. There are several breeds of dogs commonly refered to as pit bulls. Among them you will find eight breeds most commonaly refered to as pit bull types or bully breeds; The American Pit Bull Terrier AKA (Pit Bull) AKA (APBT), The American Bully, American Short Bully, American Staffordshire Terrier AKA (AmStaff), Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier AKA (BT), Minature Bull Terrier, and the American Bull Dog. All of these dogs share very similar characteristics and history. Also with such similar names it's no wonder many people get confused. The confusion is mostly caused by Kennel Club politics, so here is a little info to help you decifer the bully breeds.

AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER Terrier Group; UKC recognized in 1898. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a medium-sized, solidly built, short-coated dog with smooth, well-defined musculature. This breed is both powerful and athletic. The American Pit Bull Terrier comes in all colors and color patterns. This breed combines strength and athleticism with grace and agility and should never appear bulky or muscle-bound or fine-boned and rangy. American Dog Breeders Association (ADBA), established in 1910, registers only American Pit Bull Terriers under its own standard. ADBA dogs are sometimes dual-registered with the UKC but almost never with the AKC.

AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER Terrier Group; AKC recognized in 1936, can also be dual registard as an American Pit Bull Terrier with the UKC, but American Pit Bulls cannot be registered as AmStaffs.
